At this year's YearlyKos Convention's Netroots Heroes event Barry Welsh announced he is running a second time against right wing reactionary Mike Pence (R-An Iraqi Market Is Just Like Any Indiana Market In Summer) in the Indiana 6th Congressional District in 2008. Barry ran in 2006 with a netroots and grassroots strategy and minimal funding from the Netroots Nation, no money from the DCCC, major donors or PACs and still managed to pull 40% of the vote from speeches, appearances and word of mouth.
This was with no direct mailing, no radio and no TV ads. Pure politicking, chutzpah mixed with charm and a message that he's had enough was all it took for 40% of the voters in the district to decide they have had enough too and want to send a strong message to DC: People Before Profits. More below the fold, but here is the video of the announcement:
This year Barry is adding to that message. Public Governments, Private Lives means that we should expect our government to respect our privacy and stop spying on us. It also means we should expect our government to do the jobs it is supposed to do and not get distracted by shiny object like oil fields in the Middle East or imaginary boogeymen. Bridges crumble at home while we are rebuilding Iraqi infrastructure that we blew up in a War of Choice.
If you want your government to do the job you pay your taxes for then support Barry in his fight to retire Mike Pence in November of 2008. Remember the lessons of the netroots strategy: early money gets late money and also don't forget that a small recurring monthly donation is painless but adds up over time.
If you and every other reader on DailyKos were to donate $10 per month through November 2008 Barry could make Pencemeat out of Mike. We are looking to secure 3000 donors willing to donate $10 per month. That is the cost of 3 Starbucks lattes. Would you be willing to buy Barry 3 Starbucks lattes every month?
If you can afford to donate more by all means do so, for every $10 per month extra you donate that means one less donor we have to find. Tell your friends, family and neighbors about Barry and ask them to help out too by donating early and often.
